Robert Needlman, MD FAAP

Dr. Robert Needlman is Professor of Pediatrics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, and director of the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.  During his fellowship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Boston University he co-founded Reach Out and Read and published the first articles about clinic-based literacy promotion. Currently, he chairs Reach Out and Read Greater Cleveland and serves on the Board of the Reach Out and Read National Center.


Dr. Needlman’s longstanding research and clinical interest is the intersection of child development and primary care, particularly for families facing the multiple challenges associated with poverty. Additionally, for the last 20 years, Dr. Needlman has been the co-author of Dr. Spock’s Baby and Child Care, the classic parenting book, now in its tenth edition.
